This week, I’ve been posting on the decorations, the level they unlock at, their cost, their XP on placement, the rating they contribute to, and the points they contribute:

This post looks at the contribution of the premium decorations. Just a reminder, again, that this post contains the most recent information – I’ll be updating the original posts on Vanity and Tree-hugging soon. The decorations here are set out in the order in which they appear in the files:

As you’ll notice, the Police car and the Piece-of-Crap car both make higher contributions to Obedience and Vanity, respectively, than might have been expected. I was a bit surprised, so these have been checked and double-checked. I’ll need to update the Obedience post to reflect this as, initially, I’d read the 200 points for the Police Car as a Vanity contribution. But it looks like buying the Police Car may well solve any Obedience problems you may be having.

Tomorrow – the premium decorations…

Last week I posted on the buildings and the ratings they contribute to (and if you’d like to take a look at all those posts, you can start here). This followed a post earlier in the week about the number of points at each level you needed to maximize your Conform-o-meter ratings (and you can read that post here). But what about the decorations?

The decorations largely contribute to your Tree-hugging and Vanity ratings – and unlike the buildings, different decorations make a different contribution. Here’s the first part of a chart showing the decorations, the level they unlock at, their cost, their XP on placement, the rating they contribute to, and the points they contribute. This post takes you from the beginning of the game up to level 14 (I’ll be updating the original posts on this soon, as I’ve discovered some new information in the files).

This post focuses on your Gluttony rating, and you can check check where you currently are with it by tapping on the stars at the bottom left of your main screen:

You keep your Gluttony rating high by having restaurants for your town for people who are too lazy to cook (which covers just about evry one of your characters). Every restaurant, whether it’s regular, premium or limited-time, contributes 10 points towards the rating. Here’s a list of what can you build that contributes towards a 5-star Gluttony rating:

Regular Restaurants:
– Krusty Burger (and the Krusty Burger Franchise)
– Gulp ‘n’ Blow (and additional Gulp ‘n’ Blows)
– Java Server
– Moe’s Tavern
– Gilded Truffle
– Skip’s Diner
– Luigi’s
– Pimento Grove
– El Chemistri
– Businessman’s Club

Premium Buildings:
– Lard Lad’s
– Asia de Cuba

Limited-time Buildings:
– Phineas Q. Butterfat’s (Valentine’s Day event – no longer available)
– O’Flanagan’s Pub (St. Patrick’s Day event – no longer available)
– Swanky Fish (episode promotion – no longer available)

So, just how many restaurants do you need to get that 5-star rating for Gluttony at each level?:

As you can see, at some levels you’ll need multiple Krusty Burgers and/or Gulp ‘n’ Blows to be able to get to achieve 5 stars for Gluttony if you don’t want to buy premium restaurants, or you missed out on the limited-time eateries. And that means Krusty and whoever his Gulp ‘n’ Blow competitor is will need to get into the franchise business.

According to your Conform-o-meter, to boost your Obedience rating you need to have public buildings to keep your people docile:

Keeping the Obedience rating high helps move your Conformity Bonus to its 5% maximum, giving you extra cash and XP every time you tap. Every public building, whether it’s regular, premium or limited-time, contributes 10 points towards the rating. But it’s not just buildings that have an impact on your Obedience rating – there are decorations that have an effect as well:

– Stop Sign ($385 and unlocks at level 22) – 1 point
– Hail Ants Sign ($450 and unlocks at level 23) – 1 point
– Ambulance (30 donuts) – 10 points
– Police Car (40 donuts) – 200 points (yes, you read that right!)

So what are the public buildings that contribute towards your Obedience rating? Here’s a list (note that all buildings contribute 10 points except where marked):

Regular Buildings:
– Springfield Elementary
– The Nuclear Power Plant (each element looks like it contributes 10 points)
– Springfield Library
– First Church Of Springfield
– Jake’s Unisex Hair Palace

The Devil Donuts Cart is from episode 7 of season 24 “The Day the Earth Stood Cool“. It’s the third promotional item from this episode – the two others, the Cool Brown House and Cool Homer, were released just before that episode in November last year and were only available for a few days. Both those items were free.

In that episode, the Simpsons family gets new cool neighbors Terrence and Emily from Portland – and the Devil Donuts business is how Terence earns his money, at least for the time being. Here are a couple of screen shots from the episode showing the Cart parked outside the Cool Brown House, and showing Homer and Terence enjoying a beer outside the Cart when it’s parked downtown:

Strangely, the Cart improves your Vanity rating rather than your Gluttony rating (in the same way that the Laramie Vending Machine adds to your Vanity rating rather than your Consumerism rating).
But that can be forgiven just because it’s a great new decoration for your town that costs game dollars rather than donuts! And it also gives you 520XP when you place it in your town.

A couple of posts below this one I wrote about the number of shops you need to maximize the Consumerism rating on your Conform-o-meter. If you haven’t seen it yet, take a look here, as it also gives you some places to look on this site for more information on the Conform-o-meter and how it works. But the Indolence rating can also be troublesome for players at all levels who don’t choose to go down the house-farming route.

The Indolence rating is part of your Conform-o-meter – and you can see it by tapping on the stars at the bottom left if your screen. Getting it to 5 stars helps you get the maximum conformity bonus you can – 5% extra cash and XP every time you tap. You keep your Indolence rating high by by buying houses for families to fight and sleep in:

As you can see, at some levels, you’ll need to have at least a small number of duplicate houses to maintain a 5-star rating. And the bottom line is, if you see your Indolence rating drop, you simply need to build a house or two. And it doesn’t really matter what you build just so long as it can stand up to a lot of sleeping and a lot of fighting.

And every shop, whether it’s regular, premium or limited-time, contributes 10 points towards the rating. So what can you build that will help you boost your Consumerism rating? Here’s a list:

Regular Shops:
– Kwik-E-Mart (and the Kwik-E-Mart Franchises)
– Android’s Dungeon
– King Toot’s

Premium Shops:
– Try ‘n’ Save
– Sprawl-Mart

Limited-time Shops:
– House of Evil (Halloween event – no longer available)
– Mapple Store (Christmas/winter event – no longer available)
– Howard’s Flowers (Valentine’s event – no longer available)
– Sir Putt-a-lot’s (Valentine’s event – no longer available)

I was a little surprised in putting together the list – Springfield doesn’t have as many stores as I’d thought it did! And that means that players who missed out on the limited-time buildings or who don’t want to buy premium buildings may have to buy a second or third Kwik-E-Mart to take their rating to its maximum.

But just how many shops do you need to get that 5-star rating at each level? Fortunately, the answer is “not many”, although the release of level 29 raised the bar a bit. Here’s the breakdown:

It seems that no final conformity bonus contribution has been confirmed for the last two Whacking Day prizes. I’ll check in after the update and see whether the situation for these has changed.

But in digging into the files, I was surprised to find that a couple of buildings appear to contribute nothing to the Conform-o-meter, something you’ll see repeated in tomorrow’s post on the limited time buildings.

Yesterday, I posted the first part of a guide the game buildings and the Conform-o-meter category they contribute to (and you can read it here), and the day before I posted on the points needed in each category at each level (you can see that post here).

Each building you construct contributes a certain number of point to a different part of your Conform-o-meter and helps you to maximize your conformity bonus. While a 5% bonus doesn’t sound like much, this extra amount every time you collect cash and XP from rent and jobs is part of what helps you build up the game dollars you need to progress easily in the game.

This post is a little different from yesterday’s post in that, for level 24 onwards, I’m showing the base price in the file – the price the building will eventually drop to. Buildings up to level 23 are already selling at their base price and shouldn’t drop any lower. But for buildings from level 24 and up, a multiplier is at work, to keep them up until the next level increase. the multipliers seems to be as follows:
Level 24: 1.3x
Level 25: 1.3x
Level 26: 1.4x
Level 27: 1.6x
Level 28: 2x
Level 29: 3x
The multipliers don’t create different prices for different people. Rather, they’re the reason prices of the buildings at higher levels drop each time a new level is released.

So, here’s part 2 covering the buildings from Jake’s up to the Skinner House and the base price of the building, the XP you get on construction, the rating the building boosts, and the points it contributes to that rating. Yesterday, I posted on the points needed in each category at each level (you can see that post here). Now, here’s the first of a series of posts on the buildings, showing the price in the files, the XP on construction, the rating it boosts, and the points it contributes to that rating. The information here supersedes information in earlier posts (which will all be updated as the week goes on).

This post takes you from the beginning of the game up to Moe’s Tavern, but also includes the Krusty and Kwik-E-Mart franchises that only open at higher levels.

I’ve posted on the Conform-o-meter and its various components before. Keeping the Conform-o-meter at its maximum gives you a 5% bonus on all your cash and XP collections – but it can be quite difficult to manage sometimes, especially when a new level is released.

I’ll be updating all of the posts soon to take into account the new levels during this week (you can find them all by typing “Conform-o-meter” in the search bar at the bottom of the page). But with the drop in the Righteousness, Obedience and Consumerism ratings that seemed to come automatically for many players with the release of level 29, I thought I’d share with you something I found in the files.

To get that 5-star rating on any of the 8 elements of the Conform-o-meter, you need to reach a certain number of points. The points are linked to a value for each building or activity that has an impact on the Conform-o-meter and are hidden in the game data – and the points required for a 5-star rating change every time you level up. To see which of your ratings is likely to change as you move up in the game, here are the points required for each level:

I’ll be updating some older posts regarding building numbers based on the above information. I’m also preparing a series of posts on which building contributes to which rating and with how many points. All of those should appear during this week.

Now that Android players have joined the social game, they’re experiencing what Apple players have enjoyed for a long time – random and unexplained drops in the Righteousness rating.

The Righteousness rating is the most difficult of all the Conform-o-meter ratings to manage. You can be playing along quite happily at 5 stars on all your ratings, but suddenly your Righteousness rating will plummet – and it’s often difficult to pinpoint exactly why. So here’s some advice on just what has an impact on your Righteousness and what you can do about it:

1. Character behavior: I personally don’t believe that this has an impact (and can’t find anything in the files to support it). Other players feel that it does. In my own game, my characters rarely go to Church and Snake, Fat Tony, Legs and Louie are all constantly engaged in criminal activity, and I haven’t seen a drop in some time. The only criminal that you have to keep off the streets is Sideshow Bob, and his appearance without capture will cause a Righteousness drop (eventually).

2. Grafitti: Graffiti in your town seems to negatively affect your righteousness rating but cleaning it up restores your rating very quickly in your town, and you get 1/2 a point back for each piece of graffiti you clean up in your friends’ towns. Also leaving graffiti in friends’ towns should cause your rating to drop (although some players have reported that it increases the rating, which seems to be a glitch).

3. Visiting friends: If you don’t visit friends for a while and do some cleaning up, and very few friends visit you and leave graffiti for you to clean up, the rating seems to plummet automatically. I’m not sure exactly how long “for a while” is, though.

4. New levels: These often seem to cause a drop in the rating at some point.

5. Random behavior: It may just be that random drops in the rating are built into the game.

So, I hope this helps. And you have any other thought, please keep sending them in.

Snake

The social element of the game is an aspect confuses many people. That’s because there’s a bit more to your 3 daily actions than simply tapping on friends’ buildings and collecting money and XP, vandalizing their towns, and leaving graffiti or helping them clean it up. And, as well as whacking snakes and leaving eggs, Whacking Day has given you one more things to consider in the 3 daily actions you choose.

Let’s talk about vandalizing and cleaning up first. Vandalizing a building hurts your friend’s righteousness rating – and should also hurt yours (although a recent glitch meant that in some cases your rating actually goes up!). In the same way, cleaning up the graffiti helps the righteousness rating of both you and your friend. While many players hate seeing graffiti in their towns, those mops and buckets that appear as a result of your graffiti can actually help them out when their righteousness rating inexplicably drops. It’s not really as straightforward as it seems and any choices you make on leaving grafitti or not are within the spirit of the game.

You can also tap on buildings and collect a small amount of cash and XP for each building. But just which buildings you should tap on requires at least a moment’s thought. If you really want to help your friends, you should tap on the most expensive buildings available. If there is something for you to tap on above the building, then it means that the building has finished its rent regeneration cycle in your friends town and your friend hasn’t collected yet. The simple act of tapping means that the clock starts running again on the rent/earning cycle of those buildings. So, if you usually tap on the Simpsons’ House or the Brown Houses, you’re not really helping your friends as much as you can. You should only really tap on these buildings if you have no other choice (and when you do, a handshake icon will appear over the buildings you tapped on when your friends go into their games.)

And if you see any dead crops, tapping on these may bring them to life again in your friend’s town. Not only that, you also get to collect cash and XP as a reward for doing so (although no more than you usually do!). However, it’s important to know that you don’t help your friend in any way if you tap on Cletus’ Farm if the crops are still alive (and tapping on Chanel 6 doesn’t really help them out, either).

And for Whacking Day, there’s one more set of actions you can choose. Tapping on any of the icons above the snake-generating Rocks, Stumps and Logs will speed up the regeneration cycle of those decorations – and will mean that your friend will get their new set of snakes a little faster. If this happens a couple of times while they’re away from the game, they may even get double the amount of snakes!

One more point about visiting friends – you only need to tap once on each building you want to collect from. This makes the dollars and XP fly out and you don’t need to tap on these to collect. The game automatically scoops them up them for you after a few seconds. And you can even leave before everything is scooped up, and it’ll be automatically added to your total. Beware, though, as this doesn’t seem to be happening with the snakes you whack!

The moral then is think before you tap – although if you have 100 friends and only a little time, sometimes that’s hard to do.

P.S.: Longer term players will recall that there used to be a glitch that let you build up your cash total and collect huge amounts of cash and XP if you visited all your friends sequentially, This has been repaired and now you collect a fixed amount of $16 and 2 XP per action.

Sideshow Bob has been making more regular reappearances in a number of people’s games since the update – it used to be that you saw him once at around level 6, and then never again. But now, in an enhancement unrelated to the Whacking day storyline, he seems to keep on escaping. And, what’s more, he can reappear in your game at any time – even when you’re not actually playing it!

If you do see him, whack him and get a cash and XP reward. And if you see him in a friend’s town, you should probably do the same. Sideshow Bob has an impact on your righteousness rating (this is most definitely in the files) and is a criminal you need to keep off the streets, so you’re doing yourself and your friend a favor by capturing him. Sure, your friend won’t get the reward if you capture him in their town – but they won’t get a hit to their righteousness rating either.

At this stage, it’s difficult to say whether he’ll ever be a permanent character – I think it would be great and there’s certainly scope for an entertaining quest involving Sideshow Bob and Bart. In the meantime, though, don’t let him get away.

Bob

As many of you have noticed, Sideshow Bob is making a reappearance in the games of players at all levels. He returned, finally, to my game today after not having shown his face since level 6:

My theory on this is that it’s for the benefit of the Android players just joining Origin. That’s because if you don’t tap on him and collect the reward it will have an impact on your Righteousness rating – and the Righteousness rating is something Android players are having to manage for the first time. However, a scan of the files also suggests that we may be seeing more of him in the future, although it seems not as a permanent character.

At 90 donuts and with “something bigger” on the way, Swanky Fish has given many players pause. So, is it worth sending your precious donuts on? Here are a few reasons why it might be:

1. It’s a restaurant, and those are surprisingly few and far between.
2. It helps your Gluttony rating.
3. The animation looks really good.
4. It’s an easy size and shape to fit anywhere into your town.
5. It has its own quest (although we won’t know if Principal Skinner, Comic Book Guy or Kent Brockman will still be able to dine there until it’s no longer available).
6. It’s a limited-time item, and that means that you will probably never be able to buy it again.

And some reasons why you may decide to pass:

1. It doesn’t come with any characters.
2. For a stand-alone building, it’s quite expensive.
3. There’s no guarantee that it will be used by your characters at the end of the promotion.
4. You want to save your donuts for whatever the “something bigger” on Thursday might be.

I bought it, of course, and I’m not dissatisfied with it. After a quiet period in the game, it was great to add a quest. But unless you’re a completist, it’s probably not an essential purchase.

As part of this week’s episode promotion update you get Springfield Falls for free – and you also get the Swanky Fish restaurant for 90 donuts. For your donuts, Swanky Fish comes with an additional quest all of its own. In addition, it earns you $200 and 22XP every 8 hours and adds to your Gluttony rating. Whether Homer and Lisa will be able to continue to eat there once the promotion is over is still an open question – but for the moment, the answer is “probably not”.

So, will you be spending 90 donuts on it? Or are you going to wait until Thursday and see what the “something bigger” is that Milhouse promised? The problem with waiting until Thursday, of course, is that by then, buying Swanky Fish will no longer be an option.

So, to help players who are still weighing up their options, let everyone know here. And once you’ve voted, take a look and see what everyone else is planning to do.

First – I think all buildings contribute something, at least aesthetically. But that’s not really what the question is asking…

Most of the buildings you add to the game make an ongoing contribution – you collect rent (the shops, houses and restaurants) or they generate income of another kind (Cletus’ Farm, Channel 6). Android players won’t see this in their own towns, but even the School, the Town Hall, and Moe’s Tavern make an ongoing contribution by being vandalism targets and giving you something to clean up to increase your Righteousness Rating.

One building, though, contributes nothing at all to your income – and that’s the Retirement Castle. And another is the Power Plant. They both give you characters and jobs that you can send characters to, of course, but they give you no regular income. They don’t even appear to contribute positively to the conformity bonus in any ongoing way (although building the Power Plant will actually reduce your Tree-Hugging rating and increase your Obedience rating*.)

I’m really not sure why that is. After all, a retirement home is usually a business like anything else – and even the Church generates an income. Unless, of course, the Retirement Castle is government-subsidized, which means that money goes into it and never comes out. And I suspect that every dollar earned by the Power Plant goes into the pockets of C. Montgomery Burns!
