Just once so far in the game Gil has appeared to offer a special deal on donuts. Over the week of Christmas 2012, Gil arrived to offer “day old donuts” at up to 25% off. What that meant in practice is that you received up to 25% more donuts for the regular donut price.

Here’s what you would have received if you took Gil up on his offer and what that meant for the individual donut price (with a little rounding). I’ve used $US, but the impact was exactly the same in other currencies:

Package Price Donuts Price per Donut
A Dozen Donuts $1.99 15 $0.13
A Stack of Donuts $4.99 75 $0.07
A Tray of Donuts $9.99 165 $0.06
A Truckload of Donuts $19.99 375 $0.05
A Store Full of Donuts $49.99 1125 $0.04
A Boatload of Donuts $99.99 3000 $0.03

You can compare these against the standard prices from yesterday’s post, which you can find here.

So, will Gil be back and offering something similar in the future? Honestly, it’s hard to say. While there’s still a discount donut promotion in the files, it could reappear at any point between now and the end of the year. I really hope it happens again, though, as it was one of Gil’s better deals. And I’m sure it kept Gil’s kids fed over Christmas!

Thanks to Lee for the question that prompted this post.
