I haven’t posted on this for a while as, for Apple players at least, the game has being going through an unusual period of server stability. Android players, however, have been experiencing some issues. So what happens if you keep you keep getting that unwelcome Bart screen?

The Bart screen comes in a several different forms. The one to deal with is the one you get when the game rather helpfully (or annoyingly) tells you that it’s your problem:

So, the first thing to do is to check your own signal strength. It’s recommended that you play the game over broadband WiFi rather than a cellular network due to poor 3G/4G signal strength at different locations (my worst playing experience was on a trip to New York!). It’s also a good idea to make sure you have enough free memory space – for an Apple device you need at least 2GB of free memory and you may need a similar amount for an Android device.

If your WiFi connection seems okay, the next step is to see whether other people are experiencing the same thing. Sometimes the Bart screen will tell you that you’re getting the screen due to server maintenance:

But sometime’s it doesn’t – even when the servers are actually being maintained (usually around midnight Central US time). So, there are a few places you can look to see whether it’s just you or whether it’s everyone:

1. Check the official Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/TheSimpsonsTappedOut – it tends to go into meltdown at any drop in playability. It will help you determine whether this is an issue for everyone or just you. If it’s an issue for everyone, EA are probably on to it and things will be back to normal soon.

2. Check the official Simpsons Tapped Out forums at http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/categories/show/233.page – you can get a good indication here of whether the problem you’re experiencing is affecting everyone or just a small number of people.

3. Whether you’re an Apple or an Android player, it’s also a good idea to check the status of the Origin servers at http://www.origin.com/status – they control getting you into the game, keeping you there, and whether or not you can visit your friends. If anything is red or orange, then Origin have some things they need to fix. And while Android users don’t have Origin yet, if the Origin servers are down, you probably won’t be able to get into the game.

If it seems to be just you, you may have to contact EA directly for help with your game.

Sometimes, though, once you get the Bart screen, it stays there no matter how many times you hit retry. This often happens to me when I change WiFi connections while the game is still running in the background. All I usually need to do is to close the game completely in the multi-task bar and then reopen it to get out of the Bart screen loop. I can usually connect with no problems after that.
